At P3, our focus is on making sure people have a safe and stable place to live. It’s why we exist. And this includes the place that everyone calls home – the planet!!
We all know there is a climate emergency going on right now, and everyone is going to have to play their part to address it. And as Mark has said, P3 has a duty as much as anyone else.
So that’s why we are now devising our first Carbon Reduction Plan. To support us, we commissioned Auditel, a carbon solutions company that has managed the energy tendering for P3’s portfolio for some years now, to complete a Carbon Footprint Report to help us understand and measure our current Greenhouse Gas emissions. That’s now completed, and it is that Carbon Footprint Report – and a greater understanding of where our emissions are coming from – that will help us to develop a Plan enabling us to reach Net Zero by 2050 (at the latest!).
So what does this mean?
In simple terms ‘Net Zero’ means ensuring the Greenhouse Gases we emit, are balanced by those that we remove. Achieving that across such a large, diverse organisation is going to be anything but!
“It would be a breach of our duties as directors of the charity to continue as though there is not a Climate Emergency,” Mark says.
“As the individuals ultimately accountable for our organisation, it is our responsibility to act in the interest of our stakeholders: the people we work alongside, our staff, our volunteers, and every single person in the communities we serve, to take action starting now.”
So it starts with the Leadership Team, who are dedicated and ready. But it continues with all of us. The climate emergency is the ultimate global phenomenon. The only way we can reach Net Zero by 2050 is if everyone at P3 is committed to the changes we’re all undoubtedly going to have to make.
But that definitely doesn’t mean that you’ll simply be told what to do at work and expected to follow. We have a number of projects in the pipeline linked to our Carbon Reduction Plan and we really, really want you to be part of them – we will need your expertise! Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll be letting you know more about our carbon reduction projects and how you can be involved.
