“I think I must be mad!” Clare laughed.
“I’ve downloaded an 18-week training programme and I’ve got 10 weeks to go. I’m up to a half marathon now – training aside, I’ve done two official half marathons in the past before, although never a full one.
“It’s tough, but I’ll get there! I’m not trying to do a flash time, I just want to get round. I run with a group called the Nottingham Women Runners and they have the same ethos as Park Run where the important thing is to just get out there and do it; pace doesn’t matter.
“I do a training technique called Jeffing, a mixture of walking and running to build up distance.”
Clare is also preparing by making sure she has the right gear, including new trainers and a CamelBak bag which allows her to carry her water on her back.
“I did a long run after work the other week and it was tough!” she said. “But I’ll get there. I’ll do it!”
She has wisely booked the Friday before the marathon, and the Monday and Tuesday after, off work!
“I have a party planned – I’m just going to sit on my bottom and have someone bring me drinks! I’ll have earned it. But it will all be worth it for what it brings to P3.”

Do YOU have some ideas for fundraising for P3? Erin Coburn, Director of Fundraising and Grants at the Rugby Portobello Trust, wants to know!
“We are looking at increasing fundraising across P3 in order to bring added value to contracted services and to enable us to pilot programmes where there is no statutory or contract funding available,” she explained.
“We’d love to hear from anyone who has ideas, current contacts that we could build off of or simply who’d like to get involved to help grow support in their local area.”
Are you a runner, swimmer, walker or have some other idea of how to raise money? Get in contact – we want to hear from you!
